Interview with Amit Ganguly | Leadership Development Coach and Genetic Brain Profiling Consultant

We invited Amit Ganguly, Leadership Development Coach, and Genetic Brain Profiling Consultant for a discussion with Most Popular Stories. Let’s know about his entrepreneurial journey.

  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey as an entrepreneur.

I have over 25 years of experience in IT, most of which are with Learning and Delivery and related areas. I am passionate about training. Throughout my career, I have facilitated 400+ classes covering 8 thousand plus participants. My last organization was Accenture Solutions, where I own the “Capability and Competency Development”, “Budget”, “Asset”, “Capacity Planning”, “Employee Engagement and Retention” for one business vertical in India. I have quit my job in February 2020 and emerged as

  • Freelance Leadership Development Coach, Mentor. I have a couple of courses in Udemy on Leadership Development space and also got a book published.
  • I also offer a unique service called “Genetic Brain Profiling”, where using the fingerprint scan, we can accurately subject and educational stream potential (for children) and career potential and career track selection (for adults). Also, even the corporates can use this facility and report to understand the right potential of their employees and future employees (before issuing the offer letter) so that the right person is deployed for the right type of job (who is good at technology work, who will tend to leave the organization within a short period of time, who is a good team player, etc.)

2.  Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job?

Though my corporate journey was exciting and fulfilling, I thought of sharing my knowledge and expertise with people around the world, not just with one organization where I am working. Because in such cases, only the employees of the organization were getting benefited from my knowledge and expertise. But while interacting with people outside of my organization, I found that there is a strong demand for Leadership Development Coach. There are not too many people who offer coaching at an affordable price to a bigger audience. So, I decided to leave the comfort of 9 to 5 job, fixed salary by the end of the month, and emerged as a Freelance Coach and Mentor.

3. What was the vision behind it?

My vision by the end of 2021 is:

A. Develop at least 1000 mid-level managers to “Active Listener.”

B. Enable at least 1500 mid to senior-level managers with Emotional Intelligence.

C. Transform at least 500 Managers into Leaders.

4. Describe the services that you offer to your customers and in what way they are unique?

I offer two unique services – which are:

a. Leadership Coach and Mentor – I have worked in 10 different organizations, have experience of dealing with many different managers, some of them are great; some of them are not good. I had always moved out of my comfort zone. I tried a different type of work like – Trainer, Training Center Manager, Technical Support, Pre-Sales Consultant, Delivery Consultant, Project Manager, Learning and Delivery specialist (including setting up the end to end training process for Accenture India), Capability Development, Competency Development, Budget Management. With such diverse experience, it is evident that the kind of experience I am capable of sharing is not available with many other coaches. Most of the other people have worked in one type of segment throughout their life. I announce the following public batches about Leadership Development. b. Genetic Brain Profiling Consultant – here, using the fingerprint scan, we can accurately subject and educational stream potential (for children) and career potential and career track selection (for adults). Also, even the corporates can use this facility and report to understand the right potential of their employees and future employees (before issuing the offer letter) so that the right person is deployed for the right type of job (who is good at technology work, who will tend to leave the organization within a short period of time, who is a good team player, etc.)

5. What difficulties which you have faced or you are facing?

One primary challenge is the present COVID-19 situation. The financial condition of organizations is not great, and because of that, they had decided to slash the training budget. I feel that is not the right decision, as proper Leadership training will help the organizations to sail through the difficult situation. For Genetic Brain Profiling, the lack of awareness is the challenge. We still prefer to visit an astrologer but do not want to take a step which is scientifically (medical science) proven.

6. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?

I am a firm believer that everything that happens in our life is programmed. Also, being a believer, I believe that our job is to give 100% towards our goal, success will come automatically. I consider every day as a new day and brings up new opportunities to us. Since I always have come out of my comfort zone; trying or doing something new or doing things differently is not a challenge for me. I usually do not take stress on any condition or situation.

7. How do you market your business?

I usually use social media (majorly LinkedIn) for marketing my services and offerings.

8. How many hours a day do you work on average & can you describe/outline your typical day?

Since I am following my passion, I am not following the time – how long I am working or how many days I am working. Moreover, it is not a 9-5 job; it purely depends on the need. But on average, I usually work 10 – 12 hours in a day. My typical day constitutes of the following activities:

  1. Brand building activities.
  2. Follow Social Media to respond to the queries that are posted for me. In today’s world, social media plays a significant role as my services are available for anyone at any part of the world, using social media, I can reach out to a wide range of audience.
  3. Study new areas – sharpening the saw or enhancing my knowledge.
  4. Create videos or posts on social media.

9. In your opinion, what are the keys to success?

Hard and Smart work does not have any alternative. When we are following our passion, how long we are working does not matter at all. I have set a goal for myself, and I am working hard following the road map and taking help from my mentors to understand the best practices so that I do not have to reinvent the wheel. Having a mentor is essential for success, as a competent mentor can help us to choose the proven path towards success. If we do not have the blessing of the mentor, we will have to go with the “Trial and Error” method, which means, it will take longer to achieve our goal, and the possibility of making mistakes will be higher.

10. What advice would you give to someone starting as an aspiring entrepreneur?

What I would suggest is – we all have dreams in our life. But please remember that just having a dream is not good enough. We need to prepare a road map to fulfill our dream. The road map must be broken into short term, midterm, and long term goals. The most important part, we should take help from a mentor, so that he/she can guide us to take the right path. It’s like using a GPS while driving to an unknown destination. Another very critical point is – it may take longer or even longer to reach our final goal, but we cannot lose hope and give-up in between. Keep the dream alive like an ever-burning fire, so we can see our dream even in the middle of the night and keep on walking towards it.
