Giving It Back To The Society: How This Delhi-Based NGO Is Doing That

We are all so busy in our individual lives, racing to achieve our goals, striving to fulfil our duties and responsibilities that most of us forget to give it back to the society. A big chunk of our future generation resides on street, with no clothes or enough food.

You would be happy to learn that a Delhi-based NGO called Sunaayy Foundation works to help the homeless, underprivileged people. They are working to give them food, shelter, and of course, a better future.

Their Story

This Ngo was founded in 2009 by Richa Prasant with a vision to improve the lives of street dwellers of Delhi. In an interview given to The Logical India, Richa expressed her thought that she considers herself a privileged Indian in the sense the she has access to food, shelter and clothes. In fact she received the best available education in an English medium school in a country where 80% Indians don’t have the basic necessities. And this sense of unfairness drove her will to engage in humanitarian work.

How they help

Therefore, the company set out to help the families who earn not more than Rs. 5000 per month. The foundation helps these families to save up to Rs. 9000 on an annual basis. They also help street children to receive education. The NGO provides them free books, stationary items, uniforms and a healthy meal twice a day.

These children receive free education from the volunteer teachers of the foundation who conducts classes in public space. These classes are held according to the kids’ convenience.

The Stats

According to the foundation, they have helped 10,000 kids till now and almost 200 children among them are between the age of 4 and 14.

Currently, the NGO is helping 450 children in South Delhi, 75-100 kids in Kolkata and 50 in Bihar.

The good thing is the number of attendees in the free education classes increased from 180 to 400.

Woman Empowerment

The NGO not only focuses on street dwellers and underprivileged kids, but also strives to empower women. Prasant has stated that she wants to help women who couldn’t finish their education under various circumstances. The NGO will work to help women to make their own identity by learning some skills and find a work rather than being a maid. In future, she will continue to help these people.
