Meet Sumit Sinha an expert wedding planner. The founder and managing
director of PURPLE UNICORN. He has amazing skills and experience in planning and organizing a wedding and other events.
His hard work, creative ideas, and dedication led him to win the title of the best wedding planner in Ranchi in 2019. The famous Bollywood diva Kangana Ranaut honored Sumit as the best wedding planner in Ranchi in 2019. The event took place at Hotel Marriott, Bangkok Thailand.
He was also awarded by the well-known actress Soha Ali Khan in 2018 at hotel Taj, Bengaluru.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey as an entrepreneur
I belong to Ranchi, which is also known as the heart of Jharkhand. I was born and brought up here. After the initial schooling period, I completed my graduation from Delhi. Life in Delhi was fast-paced and all about embracing a modern lifestyle. I started a business in Delhi.
I was happy there but was always looking for something out of the box. In 2015 when I came down to Ranchi from Delhi for my sister’s marriage, my expectations were at a high level from the planner I hired.
But eventually, I saw they lack ideas and knowledge. The vibe of a beautiful and happy wedding was missing. Lots of ideas crossed my mind, and I realized that I could have organized this way better.
For a wedding is not just about lights and decor. It’s much beyond that. It’s about vibes, emotions, and the connection amongst the people present for the event. I realized not only families but people who organize should connect to make the big day way happier and beautiful.
I decided to jump into this to bring up something more lovable for the people of Ranchi. This way PURPLE UNICORN was born.
2. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job?
Since childhood I had a different mindset and planned to do things out of the box, I was an average student, always interested in exploring, traveling, meeting new people, designing, collecting fancy stuff, innovating ideas, I use to plan my college events, parties for my friends, etc. The qualities of a good event planner were always there in me.
And I knew that I can never sit 9 to 5 in front of a computer and work. I wanted my name to be known, I had dreams since childhood to earn something extraordinary, and so everything led me to the idea of being a wedding planner. And that’s what I have become today.
3. What was the vision behind it?
My vision behind purple unicorn is very clear, to serve Ranchi to my best of abilities in the field of weddings. All I want is “happy clients ‘
As we know Jharkhand is not that developed or up-to-date when compared to other metro cities. I have the mindset and target to bring up all the exciting and trending ideas of events here and organize them in the most excellent way.
We connect to clients and put our minds and heart together to make their big day the most beautiful ones.
4. Describe the services that you offer to your customers and in what way they are unique?
For PURPLE UNICORN, a wedding is not just a deal, we connect to our client’s heart. All that we want is a “happy client” – fully satisfied and pleased with our efforts and hard work.
Most importantly, we take at least 3 months to plan every single wedding in the best possible way.
5. What difficulties which you have faced or you are facing?
Every project in the world has to be completed with challenges and risks. Even I faced them. Setting a trend and building a brand takes time.
The same thing happened with me, but with time people understood the ideas and trends. And now I can see that Ranchi is treating me really well.
6. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?
We start planning at least 3 months prior to the event, we keep in touch with our clients throughout the process sharing every single detail so that everything goes on mutually and with perfection.
We divide the work and responsibility between our team members so that work is carried out smoothly. But I personally look into everything right from the beginning.
7. How do you market your business?
Nowadays social media is a huge platform to promote.
But word-of-mouth publicity is always my favorite. I like it when people appreciate my efforts personally.
8. How many hours a day do you work on average & can you describe/outline your typical day?
Weddings are mostly seasonal, and our working hours and days depend on the events lined up. But we are open 24*7 for our clients. You can always come up to us for any requirements.
9. In your opinion what are the keys to success?
According to me determination, skill, passion, discipline, and luck are the prime keys to success.
10. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur?
Follow your passion, set your goals, and work hard. Challenges will try to stop you, risks will pull you down. But, do not give up. That’s what I would like to say to all the young professionals out there.
