When it comes to consuming pure foods in a country like India, suppliers and producers don’t leave an iota of scope to adulterate them, and, a commodity like milk cannot be an exception either. This was the thought that finally compelled a small town girl like Shilpi Sinha to found Milk India Company in Bengaluru, an aspiring dairy company that sells fresh and unadulterated milk in fresh glass bottles. When asked to Shilpi, she whole-heartedly shared her story of drinking milk every morning when she was a child, but, only realized the importance of fresh and pure milk after she came all the way from Daltonganj, Jharkhand to Bengaluru in 2012.
Most of her targeted consumers include children who are aged between one to eight years, for, she says that this is the only stage in a child’s life when milk is required essentially to strengthen bones, as it is a calcium rich product. She also said that, when she officially started Milk India Company in Bengaluru in 2018, she felt for the first time that the dream which she envisaged 6 years back to supply fresh and unadulterated milk to kids in their growing has begun to come true.
Presently, Milk India Company is delivering fresh and pure milk from Sarjapur, Bangalore across a distance of 10 kilometres. The cost which they are charging for their milk at the moment is Rs 62 per litre. Sinha also is also trying to the best of her ability to convince farmers of at least 21 villages of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to feed their cows with fresh fodder crops instead of feeding them with waste. She also says that feeding cows with rubbish will only degrade the quality of the cows’ milk, and, she doesn’t want children to consume cow milk of such a poor quality.
