Debaasish Dasgupta, Founder at ModuSols on an Interview with MostPopularStories, let’s get to know more about his entrepreneurial journey. ModuSols, which aims at addressing the Marketing, IT, and Telecom requirements of an enterprise customer.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey as an entrepreneur
I have been an unconventional person from the very start! Since childhood, I have always been pulled towards things and acts which were not the normal norm. The desire to do something different has always occupied a majority of my thought process. Taking on challenges both personal and professional has been my cup of tea for all times.
The choice for entrepreneurship had seeped into my mind a few years after I had started working. I was always on the look-out for some opportunity wherein I could try out my hands at business. My first attempt at it was in the year 2010, but unfortunately due to some professional setbacks that did not shape up.
Since then, I tried multiple concepts that could make me realize my long pending desire. Success and failures welcomed me during this search, but the real change happened when I started working on ModuSols. This concept which is unique in its own way, helped me surge ahead towards the realization of my dream.
2. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job?
The choice was obviously tough coming from a family that had only produced service people. But I was a rebel since birth and hence, I nurtured the dream of entrepreneurship from quite a young age.
Moreover, after working in a number of companies of repute, I felt that I should utilize my skills in building something for myself. Though the road has been full of struggles, I am happy that I have been able to maintain steady growth and even expand to foreign lands like Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
3. What was the vision behind it?
My desire to help people, change the monotony of corporate work culture and also experiment with weird market strategies propelled me towards entrepreneurship and this ultimately gave birth to ModuSols.
I have a dream of shaping up a company that would help me build a different culture with regard to HR, Marketing, Sales, and other aspects related to business. I hope to be successful in doing this and proving to the world that when things are done with a passion anything and everything can be achieved.
4. Describe the services that you offer to your customers and in what way they are unique?
At ModuSols, we don’t actually believe in selling. We rather want to partner up with businesses and work with them hand in hand so that they can achieve their goals. We primarily work in the Marketing, IT, and Telecom domains.
We are not restricted by any product or service, on the contrary, we are driven by the sole objective of making our clients happy and satisfied with our services. In pursuit of this, we as a team are ready to walk the extra mile and re-look/discover things.
5. What difficulties which you have faced or you are facing?
Any new venture comes with its share of difficulties and hence my journey is no exception. It has been an uphill task trying to study the market, analyze it, and then come up with a proper roadmap for growth.
But, rather than being upset with it, I always took the upcoming challenges as a sort of net practice before the final international debut.
6. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?
I don’t feel pressure or stress. I only feel tired. And to me, that’s perfectly fine as I am a man of flesh and bones.
To me, pressure and stress is something which is created inside our mind by us only. If you are driven by passion, I really doubt whether these two things can make an entry into your life.
7. How do you market your business?
My strategy to market or sell a product/service differs from market to market, client to client, and situation to situation. I am a firm believer in the fact that we can only survive if we would be able to relate to the need of customers.
If we can’t do that, we would never be able to come out of the vicious circle of “Push-Sales”. I rather want to promote my business in such a way that they would make sense to a user and he would automatically approach me forgetting that.
One of my seniors had once told me- “Jaha dard hota hai, wohi Dawa bikti hai”. A small but very correct interpretation of simple business logic- You can only sell medicines, if there is an ailment. Push Sales is an absolute “No-No” for me!
8. How many hours a day do you work on average & can you describe/outline your typical day?
I don’t believe in working fixed hours. I work as long as I want to. My ideal day is one which starts off with me opening my laptop at around 8 AM, post which multiple responsibilities are taken care of and work goes on till I want to keep doing so!
9. In your opinion what are the keys to success?
To me, the most important things are- Grit, Focus, and an Honest Heart which does not only have financial aims but also keeps a humanitarian touch to it.
10. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur?
Though I personally don’t think that I still have yet reached the stage where I could advise. But, on a friendly note, all I would like to say is that before diving into this ocean one should make some careful back-calculations so that the family does not suffer because of your dreams.
Plus, you should be ready to go through stormy weather and survive, only then can you expect to see the sun shining again.
