Vishal Saurav didn’t think that his desire of doing something unconventional would culminate in creating an even more successful start-up that sells a wide range of self-defence gadgets, especially meant for women. Some of these gadgets include gun baton, knuckle, padlocks, shutter security system, walkie-talkies, kneepads, bullet proof jackets to name a few.
This 30-year old start-up owner started his entire journey of Xboom in 2015 in Bengaluru and gradually expanded his business in places like Goa and Delhi. Mr. Saurav regrets about the fact that most of the Indian people are still not aware of the importance of self-defence which is actually quite disappointing. There are more 200 products being sold by Xboom, as told by Mr. Saurav. He also said that their chief objective is to reach a larger section of the society through their self-defence products. Hence the products have been kept at a reasonable price range between rupees 100-20,000, so that anybody can afford.
Indiamart, Flipkart and Amazon are some of the sites where these products are getting sold apart from Xboom’s personal website. Mr. Saurav also exclaimed that they have also merged with a few active NGOs like NirbhayaJyoti and SWF to spread awareness amongst women. Currently, this start-up includes 15 staff in total and is serving a number of law enforcement agencies, security agencies and corporates including Andaman Police, Delhi Police, Crime Department and that of Kolkata Police. Currently, Xboom is considered as the only organization to have been selling so many self-defence gadgets at a time in India, and they are their only competitor in the market right now as told by Vishal.
When asked, Mr. Vishal Saurav further went on telling that one of the biggest challenges is to spread awareness amongst the mass about the importance of self-defence. Hence, they are tying up with some of the prominent safety trainers and NGOs in the nation to make a more conscious and aware society based on social defence in future. Xboom started its journey with a capital of 4 lakhs and garnered a revenue of 1.5 crore as of now which is expected to increase by 10 crore by 2023.
