We invited Karan Gaglani, Founder of Global Fusion for an interview with Most Popular Stories to know more about his entrepreneurial journey.
Global fusion is a group of art enthusiasts working together to provide a platform for unrecognized talent. Global fusion’s main objective is to assure that everyone has a chance to showcase their talents on a global platform.
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey as an entrepreneur.
Well, my journey as an entrepreneur started at the age of 14, where I took part in the MIT (USA) launch X program for young entrepreneurs. 5 of my friends and I took part together and founded this company called ‘Cyclogen’.
We made a product which was a solar powered-dynamo powered box where energy from the cycle is used for charging your phone, speakers, lights, and wifi on your cycle.
This project we made was environmentally friendly and we did pretty well in our project but we decided to sideline this company for a while till we could figure our production and other things.
Moving forward I took part in many open mics and as I became a public speaker I knew in our city Chennai there weren’t many opportunities for teenagers and youngsters to express themselves. Hence I decided to be the change I want to see, I thought of starting a platform to support youngsters called ‘Global Fusion’.
I discussed this idea with one of my friends and he was interested to join me and we started researching and everything officially in May 2019 and we were aiming to host events this summer but because of COVID-19, it wasn’t possible and hence we hosted our first event online with 11 young musicians and around 200 people attending also we are soon starting a podcast series ‘Unscripted’ which aims to talk to young and successful people so other young people get inspired by their stories and learnings.
2. Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job?
I have dreamt of being an entrepreneur for as long as I can remember and it has never changed.
There were this urge and hunger in me to start something of my own and be known to change the world using my company and I think entrepreneurship has given me everything I have today from confidence to management and many more things and every day is a new experience with new problems to face with new solutions and that’s the reason I think I would any day pick this over a normal job.
3. What was the vision behind it?
The vision has always been to change the world and benefit the lives of people around us by solving a problem. I always liked leading a group because I could make the calls as a leader and this has helped my vision as an entrepreneur in many positive ways!
4. Describe the services that you offer to your customers and in what way they are unique?
In Global Fusion, we provide services to host events to support young artists from different fields of Music, Standup comedy, public speaking, art, etc. We even help host private events with other companies, we are trying to form a community for these artists that’s the main aim at the end of the day.
Well, we also plan to start another wing under our company for marketing and brand-building by hiring a young team by providing them opportunities.
5. What difficulties which you have faced or you are facing?
Well, you often face difficulties many people don’t believe in your idea and things like that but slowly if you stay on the right path you start overcoming these difficulties and your company moves in the right direction.
6. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?
To handle the pressure and stress there are many ways like meditation which helps the most and many times gives me the best ideas too.
Well, the pressure isn’t a lot always but if there is any I try to think about other things and refresh my mind rather than thinking about the problem.
7. What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup?
I always believe in never giving up and this has surely helped me as a person, even in the lows we continue and we work hard daily and many times you don’t reach the results you aim for but we learn from our mistakes and we try to continue until we reach the high again.
8. How your company is helping India to grow?
Indian youngsters have a great amount of talent not recognized yet and through our platform, many people will get to know about these youngsters.
We have one of the highest populations and yet we many other countries have many good artists but with our platform finally, these artists will get the attention that they deserve.
9. In your opinion what are the keys to success?
Well, success is different for different people and to me, success would be when one of the artists starts to pursue their dream with Global Fusion and makes it to the international level in their field and another dream for me has been to get featured in the Forbes 30 under 30 lists. The day I get featured on the Forbes list that day I will know that I made it to the big leagues.
10. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur?
If someone is starting off as an entrepreneur I would like to tell them, Don’t give up whatever happens even if no one believes in your idea don’t listen to them and continue on your path to prove them all wrong, no one believed me when I started my company but I continued in my direction slowly and steady and at the end established it better than I thought and every single day might be a struggle in establishing a company but if you’re dedicated towards the goal you will be successful.
