Interview with Shivani Naghnoor | Counselling Psychologist

We invited Shivani Naghnoor a Counselling Psychologist for an interview with Most Popular Stories to know more about her entrepreneurial journey.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey as an entrepreneur

I am a counselling psychologist and I offer therapy for anxiety, depression, anger, phobia, mood disorder, personality disorder, eating disorder, loneliness, concentration issues, ADHD, OCD, Schizophrenia, and substance abuse. I also have a background in health science, biotechnology, nutraceuticals, and nutritional psychology. Throughout my education I have gained significant knowledge of ailments of the mind and body. I am therefore highly skilled in the field of mental health and alternative medicine.

My passion for counselling psychology comes from my interest in the field of mental health and alternative medicine. I also have a strong desire to help people who are alone in their struggles and make a difference in the lives of those individuals.

2. What was the vision behind it?

We are living in a fast-paced world and individuals all over the globe are facing enormous stress. The main reasons for people of all age groups to go through chronic stress are work pressure, relationship issues, exam stress, loneliness, and the need to have work-life balance. Having chronic stress and anxiety not only affects the mind but also the body, and a lot of people have constant headaches, digestive issues, muscle pain, and sleep problems caused by stress.

The pandemic has elevated stress levels and it has become a task to adjust to the new norm which is work from home. Work from home is a relatively new phenomenon to Indians compared to the western world where the work from home trend was common even before the pandemic. It is known that Indian professionals are more stressed compared to others around the globe. There are also cases where people are more worried about their health and a lot of individuals have health anxiety. I help clients manage stress levels by emphasizing on regular exercise, having a balanced diet, and getting the recommended eight hours of sleep.

The vision behind being a counselling psychologist is to help clients feel better about themselves.

3. Describe the services that you offer to your customers and in what way they are unique?

As a counselling psychologist I offer therapy for anxiety, depression, anger, phobia, loneliness, mood disorder, personality disorder, eating disorder, OCD, ADHD, Schizophrenia, and substance abuse. Having a background in biotechnology and health science has enabled me to explore the field of health psychology. I also help people who are feeling anxious and depressed caused by physical health ailments such as hypothyroid, cardiovascular disease, AIDS, COVID-19, hypertension, diabetes, and so on. Along with counselling I can suggest natural foods to calm the mind.

The strong knowledge that I have of ailments of the mind and body has enabled me to be a successful counselling psychologist and I have seen very good results in clients.

4. How do you handle the pressure and manage stress?

Being an entrepreneur has given me the power to develop leadership qualities. As a counselling psychologist I have my own independent practice where I do online and in-person counselling. I use a holistic approach which is mind-body techniques such as deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, aromatherapy, and guided imagery to help clients and receiving good feedback helps my stay calm. To manage stress, I do a lot of research on various mental health disorders and stress management techniques. I also read about the latest discoveries in the field of mental health. Being aware of the latest discoveries in the field of mental health enables me to be a good counselling psychologist.

5. How do you market your business?

I am active on social media platforms such as Linkedin, Instagram, and Facebook. On social media I create creative and inspiring posts and blogs. The vision behind developing the blog is to promote awareness on various mental health issues and I also stress on the importance of natural foods to calm the mind. 6. In your opinion what are the keys to success?

In my opinion the key to success is to enjoy what you are doing. If you have a passion pursue it, whether it is working for a company or having your own business. There will be struggles and challenges, it is a part of life. Follow your dream with determination and success will follow.

7. What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur?

Being an entrepreneur is a great initiative and it gives you the power to have leadership qualities and take charge of your life. If you are keen on being an entrepreneur, make a note of the kind of business that you want to start and how you can scale it. Have a good plan and execute it. Do not put too much pressure on yourself and set realistic goals, take it one step at a time. Also, manage your time well and do not compromise on your sleep. Focus on developing your own business and avoid comparisons.

Having your own business gives you a lot of confidence, enjoy it.
