We invited Arun Kumar Sureban, Owner and Managing director of Vesta Space Tech for an interview with Most Popular Stories to know more about his entrepreneurial journey.
Vesta Space Technology Pvt Ltd is a space technology company building small satellite platforms for commercial and scientific applications. Spacecraft platforms developed by Vesta Space Tech will cater to the needs of various Governments, Multi-National Companies, Universities & Research Institutions for applications such as technology demonstration, communications & earth observation missions.
- Tell us a little bit about yourself and your journey as an entrepreneur.
I’ve been fascinated by space shuttles since childhood and my entrepreneurial journey began when I first heard about Columbia Space Shuttle mission failure and Kalpana Chawla’s unfortunate death.
- Why did you choose entrepreneurship over a job?
My Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of South Carolina gave me a dream, a vision about pursuing my journey in space.
Hence, I chose to take the entrepreneurial route
- What was the vision behind it?
When I was growing up, space was something that was only for the select few, the privileged ones. Through Vesta Space Tech, I aim to make satellites & space services simple and accessible.
- Describe the services that you offer to your customers and in what way they are unique?
We’re a one-stop destination when it comes to space solutions. From mission analysis & design to small satellite design & manufacturing, launch assist, mission control to set up ground stations, we do everything.
- What difficulties which you have faced or you are facing?
While our passion helped us overcome many issues, the main challenge and the most tricky one was posed by the maze of rules, laws, and regulations related to space technology.
- What is one strategy that you believe has helped you grow as a person/startup?
Cost is an integral factor in the evolving space industry;, especially in the launch segment. Vesta Space Tech takes pride in offering cost-effective yet the best launch solutions, which has been a big differentiator.
- How your company is helping India to grow?
Since I was born and brought up in India, I’ve always strived to make a difference to India’s new-age space industry. We’re working with ISRO now and hope to equip the nation with the right skill set in the space domain.
- What advice would you give to someone starting out as an aspiring entrepreneur?
Being an entrepreneur is not all about the papers and the dollars.
To me, being an entrepreneur is building and conquering new opportunities, fueling new ideas, feeling the adrenaline rush day in and day out, standing strong through rides down the valley and up the hills and finally when the day closes it’s about the smile that lights up when I look over my empire, a mighty dynasty of freedom and new spirits.
